The churro is a flour-based dough cooked in oil, a so-called “frying pan fruit” meal. Churros are popular in Spain, Latin America, Portugal, France, the Philippines, Belgium, and some areas of the United States. The manufacture and sale is carried out in specialized premises called churrerías or churros factories.

Its basic ingredients are water, flour (generally wheat, although it can be of another origin), oil and salt.

Its shape can be straight, in the shape of a cane, in loops or curlers (spirals). In their modern variants, they can sometimes be filled or coated in sugar, chocolate, pastry cream or dulce de leche. They are usually consumed for breakfast or a snack, along with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee with milk.
